Bathwick is on the eastern side of the river Avon that runs through bath, it is reputed to be the most ‘haunted’ area of Bath and was developed in the mid 1700’s.

It was the famous Sir William Johnstone Pulteney who saw the potential of his wifes 600 Acre estate of Bathwick in which The County resides. He decided that it should be developed, the first problem was that there was no static link between Bathwick and the rest of bath, Sir William put forward his idea for a bridge. The bridge idea evolved exitingly when the archatect brothers Adam came on board. Inspired by the Ponte Vecchio in Venice, they decided to line the bridge with shops, thus creating the feat that is pulteney bridge today.

After the Construction of the bridge, Bathwick was slow to develop, due mainly to the American civil war which proved to be a huge drain on the economy. By the mid 1800’s it was structurely very similar to how it appears today.
